Affinity will be screening a film about a Muslim man’s desire to be a pilot in a post 9/11 world
Affinity will be screening a “Funny and moving documentary that shares the story of a young man whose passion pushes him to learn to fly despite pressures from society and his family” – Muslim Observer
This gently funny film follows Monem Salam as he enrolls in an open-minded flying school. Monem is the son of a Pakistani commercial pilot. His wife Iman’s family is Palestinian and although initially dubious about the marriage, now accepts the cult
ural differences. With three young children, Iman is happy to find time to cultivate her inner domestic diva. Monem’s “green” decision to commute by scooter only heightens his likeability. These modern-day Americans cast off stereotypes and refuse to succumb to victimhood.
“If this were in Us Weekly it would be called ‘American Muslims: They’re Just Like Us.’ “– NY Times
